Top 5 restaurants and coffee places in Kampot, Cambodia

My top 5 favorite restaurants in the Kampot, Cambodia

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen we decided to travel to Kampot, Cambodia I wasn’t expecting any vegan or gluten free options. So I was very surprised to actually find more than a few good restaurants in this area! Having these good food options and reasonable good internet connection available, made us stay much longer than originally planned. Kampot turned out to be a very nice and good place for us digital nomads to spend our time. So let me share with you my ultimate top 5 restaurants and coffee places in Kampot.

1. Ellie’s Cafe

Ellie’s Cafe must be my favorite as we spent lots of mornings and afternoons here. American Matt who runs the place has a special quality of making you feel very welcome and the food here is delicious! It must be the love they prepare it with that makes it so good.

There is literally nothing that I didn’t like about this place, they even have a little section with second-hand clothing and book trading!

We tried about everything on the menu and I loved it all! Their chai tea and chia bowls are one of the best I’ve had since traveling in South East Asia.

2. Epic Arts Cafe

This international, inclusive arts organization is one of its kind serving good food for a great cause. Besides serving one of the most delicious breakfast options in Kampot, their belief that every person counts and should be accepted and treated equally is inspiring! Most of the staff are deaf but they found a creative way to communicate with customers by their tick sheet ordering system, how cool is that? Their menu also includes some basic Cambodian Sign Language for customers to try out with the staff.

Even if you are not hungry this place is definitely worth a visit. Besides their cafe the have a little shop down the street selling art objects made by people of all abilities and disabilities. They use the arts as a form of expression and empowerment to bring people with and without disabilities together and that is something I think we all should promote!

3. Simple Things

This place is one of the few that, compared to the previous mentioned restaurants in this list, is open for dinner. All options are vegetarian and even for a non-vegetarian really doable. They serve the best vegetarian burger you have ever tasted in your life, I promise. Besides a really tasty restaurant, Simple Things is also a yoga studio. Organizing yoga classes on their spacious first-floor studio.

4. Baraca

A little bit of Spain in Cambodia. This place serves some really good authentic Spanish tapas and a mixture of local and international dishes turned into tapas. As true lovers of Andalusia, we loved this place! Besides tapas they also offer rooms for a very reasonable price.

5. Espresso cafe

I loved this place more for its coffee than I did for its food but I haven’t been around long enough to try out several things on their menu. The environment is perfect for finishing some work on your laptop while sipping on one of their iced coffees.

They serve a serious portion of salty caramel pancakes that I recommend you to try and share because it’s huge. That is if you are handling glutes without a problem because unfortunately there is nothing on the menu here is gluten free.
